Restaurant St. Ranta

Nummiranta’s Pearl

Nummiranta’s pearl is a traditional log cabin on the shore of lake Pyhäjärvi near the borders of Southwest Finland and Satakunta, which can accommodate up to 10-12 people. A shallow sandy beach and a peaceful environment make it suitable for families with children. The cottage includes a hut, a kitchenette, two loft spaces, a sauna, a dressing room, a terrace and dry toilet. The cottage has electric heating and water plus a wood-heated sauna. Nummiranta is also suitable for meetings and parties.

The Royal Spring and the Watermill

The historical Kuninkaanlähde (Royal Spring) and the old watermill are located in the village of Kankaanpää in Köyliö. Kuninkaanlähde is one of the largest springs in Finland, and it received its name after the visit of King Gustav III of Sweden in 1775.

From Säkylänjärvi to Kuninkaanlähde the spring flows along the stream Kuninkaanlähteenoja into Lake Köyliönjärvi. On Kuninkaanlähteenoja there are two water mills, one being Martin Vesimylly, which has been preserved and restored in the modern era.

Katismaa Island

Katismaa island offers year-round recreational opportunities in Säkylä on the shores of lake Pyhäjärvi. In the summertime, the island has a café-restaurant and a sauna. From Katismaa you can also rent Ilo Adventures canoes, kayaks and SUP boards.

In winter, the island’s services focus on ice swimming with sauna and cafe services.

Säkylä’s Wilderness and Fishing Tourism

Säkylä’s Wilderness and Fishing Tourism offers high quality cottages for rent on the shore of Lake Pyhäjärvi. Accommodation is available in three different sized cabins, the largest of which can sleep nine people. The cottages are located near the centre of Säkylä. There is also a smoke sauna and a barbecue hut. Fishing programme services are also available.

Lake Metsäjärvi Nature Trail

Metsäjärvi Nature Trail is located near the village of Kankaanpää, to the south-east of lake Köyliönjärvi.

The nature trail begins at the Kaarnikka Wilderness Centre. The trail winds through covered forests and eventually leads to a shelter and campfire site on lake Metsäjärvi’s shore. A map of the route can be found here.

The length of the trail is about 5.5 km but this can be shortened if you turn back at the shelter.

The starting point at road Kaarnikantie has an information board.

Lake Ilmiinjärvi Swimming Beach

Ilmiinjärvi’s small-scale public beach is located near the borders of Säkylä and Kokemäki’s municipalities, on Lake Köyliönjärvi’s nothernside. Dressing room facilities and a dry toilet.

Kaunisranta sauna and swimming beach are located in the southwest of Lake Pyhäjärvi in the village of Kolvaa, Säkylä. The Sauna and beach are run by Pöytyä municipality.

Yttilänotta Swimming Beach, lake Köyliönjärvi

The Yttilänotta public beach is located on the eastern edge of lake Köyliönjärvi. The beach has a diving tower, changing rooms, a dry toilet and a sauna for rent. Sauna reservations are handled by Säkylä’s municipal office.

Katismaa Swimming Beach, lake Pyhäjärvi

Katismaa’s public beach is located near Säkylä fishing harbour on Katismaa Island. The beach has a jumping tower, changing room facilities and a children’s playground.

Säkylä sandy beach is located at the northeastern side of lake Pyhäjärvi. The public beach has a dry toilet and changing rooms.

Säkylä Winter and Continuation War Museum

Säkylä Winter War and the Continuation War’s Museum’s exhibitions display Finnish wartime life and its artefacts. The visitor can feel the atmosphere in which smoky frog chambers warmed badly wounded soldiers and you can also see the medication the soldiers took. In the canteen you can look at the products used on the front. In addition to the fixed exhibits, the museum also has changing exhibits.

Harjureitti Hiking Area

Harjureitti Hiking Area is located in the Säkylänharjun-Virttaankangas Esker area and has a choice of several trails for hikers and excellent shelters for taking a break. Along the hiking trails there are also information boards describing the nature, groundwater and geology of the area. The area is maintained by the municipalities and cities of Säkylä, Oripää, Huittinen and Loimaa.

In winter, the Harjureitti becomes a skiing track, which 14 kilometers is lit.


Vampula Frisbee Golf Course

Vampula’s frisbee golf course is located near the Säkylä and Huittinen border on the Harjureitti hiking area. A forested course begins the at Vampula’s outdoor rest area. The course offers 10 and 18 hole options. Frisbee golf course is not in use during the winter skiing season.

Fishing on Lake Pyhäjärvi

Pyhäjärvi is the common lake for the regions of Southwest Finland and Satakunta and the largest lake in Southwest Finland. Säkylä’s Pyhäjärvi is said to be one of Europe’s most fish rich lakes and its attractions include plenty of pike and perch. In addition, the lake contains, for example, burbot, brown trout and whitefish. Signal crayfish are also plentiful and 500,000 to 1,000,000 are caught annually on lake Pyhäjärvi.

The 48 km long cycling route begin in the centre of Säkylä and runs alongside Lake Pyhäjärvi to Pyhäjoki village to esker Säkylänharju-Virttaankangas and from village Kankaanpää back to Säkylä. (more…)

Close to the Pori Brigade’s military area in Säkylä’s Huovinrinne is a 9-hole woodland course open to all. The parking area is located on the right side of road Huovintie, opposite the hospital.

Eenokki Frisbee Golf Course

The Eenokki Frisbee Golf Course is located in a fantastic location on the shore of Lake Pyhäjärvi.

The course has 12 fairways that vary in length from 55 metres to 182 metres. The total length of the fairways is 1237 metres.

It is located in the beach area (4 fairways), the dunes (4 fairways) and on the other side of the Rantatie (Beach Road) behind the woods (4 bus). The total length of the fairways is 2400 metres.

The parking area is located at Rantatie 706, 27820 Säkylä.
